Informations for patients

What is the GLA:D® Schweiz programme?

The abbreviation GLA:D® stands for Good Life with osteoArthritis in Denmark.
The programme, which consists of the three areas “counselling and instruction”, “exercises” and “quality control through data collection”, was introduced in Denmark in 2013.
The aim of GLA:D® is to enable people with osteoarthritis to enjoy a good quality of life.

How does the GLA:D® Schweiz programme work?

The patients go through the 3 – 2 – 12 – 1 program:

3 individual sessions with initial examination, tests and practical introduction to the exercise programme
2 group sessions with consultation and instruction
12 group sessions with a neuromuscular exercise program
1 single session with exit examination, including a short report to the referring doctor

Why should I choose GLA:D® Schweiz?

Once patients have completed the programme, they have sufficient skills to manage their knee or hip problems independently. This is also confirmed by the long-term results after 12 months.
Pain, walking ability and quality of life were significantly better after 3 and 12 months and did not decrease after 12 months, as is often the case with other treatment methods.
This allows patients to benefit from greater physical activity, which greatly improves their quality of life.

The GLA:D® Switzerland programme is paid for on prescription by health insurance.

Experts support you and want to know how you are doing with the programme

The GLA:D® Switzerland programme is an overall concept and is offered and implemented by specially trained and certified physiotherapists.

In addition to the entrance and exit examinations, patients are interviewed by questionnaire after 8 to 12 weeks and after 12 months.
All collected data is also sent to the GLA:D® Schweiz Register in anonymous form and a report is produced annually.
The data collection has been approved by the responsible ethics committees throughout Switzerland.

How can I participate in a GLA:D® Schweiz programme?

If you want to participate in a GLA:D® training program, certified GLA:D® physiotherapists throughout Switzerland are available to support you! Before taking part in the training programme, the GLA:D® physiotherapist will assess your current situation and then you will be introduced to the training programme.
